PILLS & DRUG COMPOUNDING

We all know those jokes about us ‘hoomans’ giving our cats a pill as in the above cartoon.  Some cats are actually easy to pill.  But a few go on red alert!!!  They know what’s coming – and so do we.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS WEEK

This week is Disaster Preparedness Week. The above picture shows Sophee investigating the American Red Cross Emergency Kit. The most important thing in disaster preparedness is:  HAVE A PLAN!  Planning should include all of the 'what ifs' such as where you will be when a disaster hits.  Will you be at home, at work, on the road or in another state? The options are considerable.  At the time of the Northridge quake and the fire in 2008 that forced an evacuation, I was at home.  These events predated the Cat Authors.

DO CATS SLEEP TOO MUCH?

The above picture is of Charlie at age 18 1/2.  He has since 'crossed over the bridge.'

How much do you sleep per day?  Six to eight hours?  How long do your cats sleep?  Experts say that our cats sleep twice as much as we do!  Sixteen hours is the average amount of time that our cats sleep per day.  Older cats and kittens spend even more time sleeping. When our cats aren’t playing, eating or washing, they’re sleeping.

WHY DO R CATS RUB AGAINST THINGS?

Cats rub their faces on and against objects for many reasons, depending on the context or object being rubbed.  When our cats rub their faces (mouth, chin, side of face, neck and/or ear) on an item, they are leaving a scent.

CAN YR CAT "PLAN" 2 GET U 2 PLAY & LAF?

Do you think your cat ‘knows’ what to do to get you to play with them and laugh?  We see countless videos and GIFs of cats being silly and doing silly things on YouTube.  Many times the cat/kitten is only using his innate predatory skills and showing amazing agility with funny leaps and bounds.  But some of the cats seem to be 'performing' for their hooman.  So, I do wonder:

THE THREE CAT AUTHOR SCOTTISH FOLDS

Three of the Cat Authors are Scottish Fold Straight-Eared cats.  They are wide-eyed, curious, playful, attentive, not real talkative (except when they want to eat) and VERY soft-voiced.  And that is where the similarities end.  Gracee (the red-orange Cat Author) is bossy (including swats and hisses), high-strung and ever watchful.  She hangs back when two-legged critters visit.  Inkee-Bear (the all black Cat Author) is the total antithesis.  He is laid back and social.  He greets two-legged visitors by stretching out on the floor in front of them.  Sophee (the calico Cat Author) is also laid back, extremely curious and playful.  She doesn’t want to miss a thing.

DO CATS NEED TOYS?

Cats do not like to be bored when they are awake.  Natural predators that they are, they love a toy that they can chase, pounce, capture, carry, bite, and roll around with.  Some toys in our house I buy at the store and some are gifts to my cats from my friends and relatives.   Those are the store-bought toys like the plastic wand with the long strip of brightly colored material on it, the infamous laser, the ball that races around a track and Mousie – Spirit’s favorite toy.  Many toys are laced with catnip which some of my cats are attracted to sometimes.  But the ‘other’ toys?   Over the years, I have learned that there is no predicting what a cat will consider

THE EGYPTIAN MAU PERSONALITY

‘Egyptian Mau’ cats are not only unique but one of the oldest known cat breeds still in existence. The word "Mau' means cat and, Spirit, an Eyptian Mau and one of the Cat Authors, is all cat. The following lists some of the Personality Traits of the Egyptian Mau:
