HOOMANS: SUPERIOR POWERS?

We, the Cat Authors, don’t like 2 perch on top of our TV anymore ‘cause  it spews anger, hate, intolerance..even death and so much sadness.  Fur shure we aren’t plants so we figure both four-legged & two-legged critters R ALL animals.  We don’t want 2 B poll-i-tickle but we R wondering: Do hooman animals (two-legged) have superior powers & abilities (reasoning, communicating, compassion, caring) or not?

THE NEELY CAT CENTER

The Neely Cat Center in Pasadena, CA is named after a beloved 18 year old Siamese cat named ‘Neely.’  Neely’s owner-father, Bill Payden, wanted to establish a facility for cats that would provide compassionate, loving care. Following Mr. Payden’s death, his sister funded most of the facility from a $2.5 million dollar donation from the William R. Payden Philanthropic Trust.  The result is the Neely Cat Center.

THE THREE CAT AUTHOR SCOTTISH FOLDS

Three of the Cat Authors are Scottish Fold Straight-Eared cats.  They are wide-eyed, curious, playful, attentive, not real talkative (except when they want to eat) and VERY soft-voiced.  And that is where the similarities end.  Gracee (the red-orange Cat Author) is bossy (including swats and hisses), high-strung and ever watchful.  She hangs back when two-legged critters visit.  Inkee-Bear (the all black Cat Author) is the total antithesis.  He is laid back and social.  He greets two-legged visitors by stretching out on the floor in front of them.  Sophee (the calico Cat Author) is also laid back, extremely curious and playful.  She doesn’t want to miss a thing.

EASTER'S PETER COTTONTAIL

PETER COTTONTAIL is the temporary name that Peter Rabbit  gave himself in the first book written by Thornton Burgess, Old Mother West Wind..”  In the story, Peter Rabbit thought the name Peter Cottontail made him sound more important.  The author, Thornton Burgess, was an American conservationist and author of children’s stories.  He loved the beauty of nature and its living creatures so much that he wrote about them in his books and newspaper column, “Bedtime Stories.”  By the time he retired (in 1960), he had written more than 170 books and 15,000 stories for his daily newspaper column.  In hi

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE & HER 60 CATS

Almost every two-legged critter knows who Florence Nightingale is.  But, one of the least known facts about her is that she was a devout cat lover.  In fact, they were her chief joy.  During her lifetime, she probably owned 60 cats.  She wrote to her parents:  “Cats possess more sympathy and feeling than human beings.” In another letter to her mother, she wrote:  “Dumb beasts observe you so much more than talking beings and know so much better, what you are thinking of…”

HOW MANY CATS R 2 MANY?

OK, I admit it -- I love cats.  My cats are indoor cats because I don’t want them to become prey or road-kill.  Our house is a two-story, about 1600 feet.  Some folks that I know have no cats, some have a few cats, and one has many cats.  So, exactly what is  “too many?”  That depends on who is judging but most important, how we honestly respond to three areas of concern dealing with what we can AFFORD, how much TIME we have and do we have sufficient SPACE in our homes.  The following is a detailed list of questions to answer when considering how many cats we should be responsible for at one time:

VALENTINES DAY

What do you know about Valentine’s Day?  As usual, I wanted to know the “who, what, where, why and when” of this annual celebration.  I was surprised to learn how the traditions that we associate with Valentine’s Day began and how early they began.  The early links to Valentine's Day were focused on sacrifice as indicated below.

CAT CARETAKERS: MAKE A PLAN

What is my plan for my cats if I die or become unable to care for them?   I plan on living at least another 20 years but none of us knows how long we will live (no matter how old we are today).  Nor do we know how long we will be healthy enough to care for our cats.  My friends and I talk about who would do what for my cats if something were to happen to me.  We also talk about who they want to care for their animals  if something were to happen to them.  They have cats, dogs, tortoises, etc.
